He had such a large and diverse repertoire from Brahms to Bernstein and many in between, that it was not long before somebody came up with the wonderful quip that 'he left no tone unsterned'. Our violin is not a slavish copy as might be expected but is close in all woodwork respects whilst following an independent path for maximum speed of response and depth of sound.
