The violin (LOB 350.5 mm) is in the late style of Joseph Guarnerius del Gesù and displays many of the visual characteristics of the Doyen and the Sauret violins. The back is of 'rarity', quality maple with the flame sloping downwards from the treble side to bass. In common with many of del Gesù's late violins the whole instrument is covered with a glorious deep coloured varnish.
